Quick note

Target size is set to 50KB. Upload JPG, JPEG, PNG or WEBP, download the result, then check the file size before you submit a form.

For strict Indian portals, choose JPG output first, then recheck the downloaded file size before submitting.

Honest scope

This page shrinks file size — it does not design a passport frame

Passport portals ask for two things at once: pixel dimensions (often 3.5×4.5 cm or a fixed width×height) and a KB cap near 50KB. Crop and align the face in your phone gallery or a photo app first. Then upload here to hit the size limit without turning skin texture into grey blocks.

I am Rajat Gupta. The rejection emails I hear about usually mention wrong dimensions, not wrong KB — people compress first and crop never. Do dimensions first, size second.

1

Match the printed size

Read the form for width×height in pixels or cm. Crop to that ratio before you touch KB.

2

Light and background

Plain light background, face forward, no shadows on cheeks. Dark photos eat KB without adding detail.

3

Compress toward 50KB

Upload the cropped JPG. Download, check face at full zoom, then submit.

Before vs after expectations

What 50KB usually preserves — and what it does not

Usually fine

  • Face outline and eyes identifiable at normal zoom
  • Plain background without busy patterns
  • Passport-style crop with head centered

Often lost at 50KB

  • Fine hair strands against a busy background
  • Studio-level skin texture
  • Full-shoulder shots with lots of empty space

Common rejections

KB passed — upload still failed

  • Wrong aspect ratio — file is 45KB but dimensions are 800×600 instead of the required 413×531.
  • Glasses glare, hat, or filtered selfie — compression cannot fix policy violations.
  • PNG uploaded when the portal lists JPG only — convert with PNG to JPG first.
  • Form allows 100KB — forcing 50KB softens the face for no reason. Try 100KB if that is the printed max.
